Cherimoya/Atemoya/Sugarapple Hybrids

The Annonaceae family is host to many select choices of delicious fruit, some of which do not perform well here in S. California while others will. We offer the varieties that are proven well adapted to S.California such as last years (2007') new spring release, the Super Sugarapple. This particular selection often produces fruit weighing over 5 pounds! Most Annonas should be grown in full sun.They can be maintained at under 10 feet tall.They are considered evergreen with beautiful large round leaves that lend to its tropical appearance. The flower is pale yellow and consists of three fleshy petals which give off a fragrance much like that of the fruit itself. The color of the flesh is white containing multiple 1/2" long black seeds. The flavor..."Ahh yes, the flavor" is well received by most who sample it for the first time. Properly ripened fruit are juicy and sweet with just enough acidity to make it interesting. Imagine the flavor combination of white nectarine,mango,banana,with a hint of pineapple to boot! The fruit is often sold for $4-$5 per pound and they often weigh over a pound so most only buy one at a time. Unfortunately they are often picked to green thereby not allowing the natural ripening process to continue. This oftentimes results in a substandard product that if the consumer were to sample , ( first impressions being as they are ) they would mostlikly be disappointed especially after considering the price.
